Decibel Meter:
Sound & Noise

A microphone-level tool that works on your device.

Privacy policy

Effective October 18, 2026. This policy covers the Android app Decibel Meter: Sound & Noise, package com.cidev.soundmeter, provided by C.I Dev.

The app does not collect or share your data. It has no accounts, ads, analytics, billing, or internet permission.

Microphone permission

The app asks for microphone permission when you choose Start measuring. It reads small audio buffers in memory to calculate numeric levels. It does not save audio files, upload sound, transcribe speech, or identify speakers.

Microphone access stops when you pause, switch to Sessions, open Help, or leave the app. There is no background recording service. Android's microphone permission and privacy controls remain available.

What stays on your device

An active measurement contains numeric levels, duration, and statistics in memory. Only when you choose Save are its name, date, numeric samples, minimum, energy average, maximum, clipping indicator, microphone-source type, and reference settings stored in the app's private storage.

Response speed and an optional reference adjustment are saved as local preferences. No advertising ID, location, contacts, device identifier, or browsing history is collected.

Export and deletion

Export CSV uses Android's document picker. You choose the destination, which may be local storage or a cloud provider you have configured. The CSV includes the session name, date, numeric levels, and measurement settings; it contains no audio. A provider you choose processes the file under its own policy.

Delete a session in Sessions to remove it from the app. Exported files are separate: remove them using your file manager or chosen provider. Clearing app storage or uninstalling removes app-local sessions and preferences. The app excludes its data from Android cloud backups and device transfer.

Third parties and this website

Google Play and Android process their own installation, platform, and permission information under their policies. This is separate from data collected by the app. This support website is hosted by Sites; hosting may process ordinary web-request information. The page contains no advertising, analytics scripts, tracking pixels, or contact form.

If you email support, your email provider and ours process the message. Send only the details needed to explain your issue; do not email private recordings or passwords.

Audience and changes

This is a general utility for teenagers and adults and is not directed at children under 13. The app does not collect children's personal data. If privacy practices change, this policy and the Play listing will be updated before those changes are released.

Understand the readings

The default is relative digital level in dBFS. Negative values are normal; 0 dBFS is full scale. This is not an absolute sound-pressure reading.

Optional reference adjustment requires a separate sound-level meter and a steady comparison signal. It applies a single offset. Phone microphones, cases, audio routes, software, clipping and built-in processing can limit accuracy. Recheck reference settings after changes.

The app does not implement A/C weighting and is not a certified SPL instrument. It is not intended for health, hearing-protection, legal, occupational-safety, or regulatory-compliance decisions.
